What is Recycled Mulch, or Compost?

Mulch Products…

These products are made from shredded and screened wood “chips” or “mulch” ground down from all types of wood. This may include items that people put into their “green bins,” it may also include construction type wood items such as: dressers, cabinets, etc; basically, wood items people would set out on big dump days. These wood items are all recycled together, chipped, and sometimes screened and dyed with a non-toxic, environmentally friendly dye. A There is also all forms of soft and hard wood from homeowners and landscapers .

What that means is it is not uncommon to find small amounts of metal, plastic, and glass in some of these products. Although, at Fresno Bark, Inc. we buy a “screened” finished recycled product, it is still an occurrence that we have found.

So, why would you want to buy this product?

Many people want to help make the world a better place by recycling. This is a simple way to do it. The non-toxic dye can even keep its color longer than some of our natural, off the tree, chips / bark/ and mulch. Because it is a recycled product it is also cheaper to buy.

So, the upside is the product will hold its color longer and will save you money per yard, but you may have to clean a bit of waste products out of it. Every batch is different and unique, and we cannot guarantee it to be 100% free of waste. So, make the right decision for your budget and lifestyle.

Compost

The same is true for our “Compost.” Our compost is a “green waste” compost, which in part can consist of what people throw into their “green waste bin.” Therefore, in some cases it may contain items such as plastic, metal, and glass in very small amounts. Each batch of compost is different. Most of the compost we buy is O.M.R.I. certified but even then, there are still contaminants.
